Last weekend we finally began bringing out story to life. We went into the filming knowing we wouldn't use any of the shots taken. We just wanted to get a feel for the setting, see how everything worked out and if we should change anything. First, we wanted to see how Betty's room scene would work. The plan was to see how we should move the camera around the room so viewers could see all the obvious indicators (props) of Betty's recent breakup. In the end, it worked out pretty well! However, I do believe we could go a little faster. I'm not sure we will have enough time to fit everything we want to cover in the opening if we take too much time panning around the room.
Pictured above is a still shot of Betty's room! We wanted a simply, "girly" look so we set up the room to have a pink light. We are unsure if we will stick with this light in the final footage, but it worked fine over the weekend.
Following Betty's room, we quickly went to the front door to see how the conversations scene between James and Betty would be like. We filmed the POV shot of Betty walking towards the door, but it came out a little too shaky for what we desire. We then took turns alternating from Betty and James' face during the conversation. Our acting skills were put to the test! We definitely have to get better at showing emotion!
Here is a still shot from Betty's POV as she walks up to the door to open it. James will be seen standing on the other side.
Finally, we ended filming by tilting up the sky where the title would appear. We wanted to see how fast or slow we should tilt to deliver the right feel for the movie. One thing we noticed while filming this scene that it was getting a bit dark and the sky was not the exact bright shade of blue we were imagining. I think for next time, we will film the tilting to the sky scene first to make sure it doesn't get too dark while filming the other scenes.
We did not film the scene between August and James on our first day due to a lack of time. This is fine though since we were just testing out some of the other shots we were planning on including in the opening. I am sure we will cover this parts of the opening on our next day of filming. We will probably meet again to film this weekend. Then we will check what we have filmed and see if we need to refilm, anything. The day for reshooting will most likely be the weekend after our SAT testing date, which is March 3rd.
